CA's eTrust Antivirus to Strengthen and Augment Inherent Security Of Thin Client Platforms
SAN JOSE, Calif. 11/02/2005 - Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced an agreement with Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA) to market and deploy CA's eTrust Antivirus software for its Microsoft Windows XP Embedded (XPe) based thin clients. CA's eTrust Antivirus for XPe is the industry's first virus protection solution designed specifically for Microsoft Corp.'s componentized version of the Windows XP operating system.
With a minimum footprint of under 6MB and its modular design, eTrust Antivirus for XPe strengthens and augments the inherent security of the thin client, even when applications dictate that units be placed in public areas, outside of the firewall, or on the Internet. Building upon the Microsoft Windows XP Embedded platform, Wyse is able to deliver an optimized antivirus solution for its entire line of XPe devices, including the newly released Wyse S90 and V90 platforms.
"The benefit of embedding CA eTrust Antivirus protection in XP Embedded devices is simple: it allows Wyse customers to focus on their business and not worry about interruptions, abuse or inefficiencies due to malware," said Tarkan Maner, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Wyse Technology.
eTrust Antivirus for Windows XP Embedded provides Wyse customers with maximum protection against viruses and a variety of other network-based threats. It also provides essential updates of virus signatures for ongoing security.
"As our enterprise customers deploy thin computing more broadly to support a growing number of users, the security of those deployments has become increasingly critical," said Sam Curry, Vice President of eTrust Security Management at CA. "The combination of eTrust Antivirus and Wyse provides that security in a way that is both highly effective and highly cost-efficient." CA and Wyse are exploring other opportunities to work together and extend the value of each other's products, particularly in the area of infrastructure management. For example, Wyse's Device Manager, which controls and updates thin devices, delivers complementary value to CA's Unicenter Network and Systems Management product for thin computing infrastructures by enabling thin clients to be discovered and monitored in the Unicenter management console.
