The PC is out, thin computing is in.

The personal computer has dramatically increased individual productivity in the workplace. However, the downside is that each personal computer requires personal attention from your IT staff. Designed for the rigors of business, thin computing allows IT departments to manage and secure desktop hardware more easily while delivering the same PC experience that users expect. With all the attention given to thin computing these days, the challenge is understanding which solution best fits your organization's needs. This on-demand Webinar illustrates key differences between the three main ways to deliver thin computing and explains which thin computing solutions work best in different environments.

Shared Services is the most traditional thin computing solution and provides an efficient way to deliver access to centrally stored information from anywhere. The server centrally processes the application and information, sending screens quickly to the desktop so that it appears that everything is executing locally, like a PC.

Virtualization is an adaptation of virtualized server technology that employs a thin layer of software between the server hardware and the operating system. While some virtualization software allows enterprise desktops to run on multiple, server-based virtual machines, the Wyse Enterprise Desktop Virtualization system assigns each thin client its own virtual machine on the server and works just like a standard PC. Each thin client is centrally managed and accessible from anywhere on the network.

Streaming is another recent thin-computing solution and delivers the entire operating environment—both operating system and applications—to the desktop device over a network . The software is delivered incrementally on demand, giving people only what they need at any given time. Applications execute on the desktop like the traditional PC model, but all data is stored and controlled from the server, giving IT the control it wants, and users gain access to applications that cannot be utilized over existing remote protocols.
