Cost reduction

The global economic recession of the past two years, along with the slow rate of economic recovery, has challenged IT teams within organizations of all sizes to do more with less—oftentimes, much less. As a result, the important task of minimizing excessive spending has evolved into the critical requirement of ongoing cost reduction.

Many organizations have implemented server virtualization in the datacenter to reduce IT costs. Logically, many are considering desktop virtualization as the next step to reducing ongoing costs further. Because Dell Wyse cloud client devices are all managed and maintained from the datacenter rather than on individual desktops, they require a small fraction of the time and expense to secure, update with new OS and software images, and maintain. Dell Wyse thin and zero clients typically consume about one-tenth the electricity of a PC, resulting in immediate and long-term energy costs savings, especially for large enterprises. Organizations can save thousands of dollars per year in energy cost savings alone, not to mention reduced desktop maintenance costs.

Dell Wyse cloud client computing solutions:

  • Dramatically reduce the time and expense of securing PCs, because all data is stored safely in the datacenter, where it belongs.
  • Dramatically reduce the time and expense associated with desktop infrastructure maintenance with centralized provisioning, updates, patches and management.
  • Consume very little energy and emit very little heat per device, usually about one-tenth that of a PC, saving thousands of dollars per year in energy and HVAC.
  • Last about twice as long as PCs, eliminating the usual 3- to 4-year desktop hardware refresh cycle.
  • Reduce the cost and energy required for shipping, storage and operation with light-weight, compact form factors.

(Dell) Wyse units are reliable, last significantly longer, are more secure, and enable us to get out of a vicious cycle of PC replacement. With respect to the end user experience, there’s virtually no difference between a PC and a virtual client.
